Taking place in Georgia, from 1948 to 1973, Driving Miss Daisy tells the story of the unexpected friendship that develops between a fiercely independent Jewish widow and her African-American chauffeur. When Daisy’s son decides she’s too old to drive anymore, he hires Hoke to drive for her. Daisy and Hoke’s relationship gets off to a rocky start, but they gradually form a close friendship, one that transcends racial prejudices and social conventions.

Amy Kaissar (Director) was the Managing Director of Bristol Riverside Theatre from 2009-2014 and co-directed BRT’s production of Enemy of the People. She has served as a producer on Broadway of The Heidi Chronicles, starring Elisabeth Moss and Jason Biggs and of Jeanine Tesori’s Tony-nominated musical Fun Home. Her directing work has been seen at The Pittsburgh Public Theatre, Abingdon Theatre, Stone Soup Productions, The Theatre Studio (NYC), The Philadelphia Dramatists Guild, on PBS (WQED-Pittsburgh), and at Epiphany Theater, a company she co-founded in 1999. In its 10 years, Epiphany supported the work of over 200 early career artists including future winners of the Tony, Jonathan Larson, Richard Rodgers, Reva Shiner, Heideman, and ASCAP awards.

Marvin Bell (Hoke) reprises the role he created at Flat Rock Playhouse and Playhouse on Park. He has appeared at St. Louis Black Repertory Company in Blues for Mr. Charlie, The First Breeze of Summer, and The Brownsville Raid, and at Cape Fear Regional Theater in The Piano Lesson. Bell is also a stand-up comedian with appearances on CBS, BET, VH1 and KTLA.

Michael Samuel Kaplan (Boolie) has been a frequent guest at Kansas Repertory Theatre, Kitchen Theatre Company, Virginia Shakespeare Festival and Ensemble Theatre Company. An Equity Resident Artist at Cornell University for three years he has also appeared at Rattlesnake Theatre, Skylight Theatre, Arkansas Repertory and New Jersey Repertory.

Lucy Martin (Daisy) is a Broadway veteran with appearances in Hedda Gabler, The Constant Wife, Joe Egg, Hollywood Arms, Major Barbara, and The Sisters Rosensweig. Off-Broadway she has been featured at Roundabout Theatre, Manhattan Theatre Club, Playwrights Horizons and Lincoln Center. She is also familiar to television audiences from her four years on Edge of Night.

Driving Miss Daisy brings together a creative team of BRT veterans including set designer Charles Morgan, lighting designer Kate Ashton, costume designer Linda Bee Stockton, sound designer Amy Altadonna and introducing projections designer Stivo Arnoczy.

BRT’s 30th anniversary season continues with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Jesus Christ Superstar on March 21-April 16 and Agatha Christie’s Witness for the Prosecution on May 9-28.

Since 1986, BRT has brought consistently acclaimed professional theatre to Bucks County and maintains a long-term commitment to finding and developing new plays.
