The Eyes of Babylon
Lance Corporal Jeff Key recorded his experiences in Iraq in a small notebook kept in his cargo pocket. For entertainment, he read the journals to his fellow marines. These are the true words of a soldier at war performed by the marine himself.
“At the time I was making those journal entries, I probably would have told you I was writing mostly so that if I was killed over there, my loved ones could have some idea of what I was going through. Now I know that I was more likely writing to some future version of myself . . . My time in Iraq was the most intensely spiritual time of my life. Sometimes, after a sleepless night on duty, I would stare into the rising sun and feel like the secrets of the ages had been whispered to me.”
The Eyes of Babylon will premiere Off-Broadway at 59E59 June 14th-July 3rd.
"I was blown away by Jeff's artistry. He was meant to influence us all." -Lily Tomlin
"The Eyes of Babylon is as astonishing to me as any other work of art which appears, fresh, from a highly gifted artist. I was drawn into it, disarmed, and stilled to a state of positive shock and awe. As moved as I was throughout the presentation, I didn't weep until later, when the worth and weight of it had sunk in." -Joan Baez
